I don’t think they can actually control how everything turns out. But at least they can apply remedies to those who seek for help about getting rid of the negative links. Well, at least, that’s how CLEANmy.NAME does their work. I have experience with this company and I really like what they do and how they do what they do.

100% Mike, the irony is that the site tag line reads "Entrepreneurs Thinking BIG: Business resources, tips, success stories, interviews and business ideas" yet they site isn't publishing tips that aren't giving them kickbacks.

"Just a note, since we do try and cover our overheads, the cost for a press release is R350 per release. We rewrite it and then publish it as our own."

This does not make sense? You will be charged so that they get the credit of publishing YOUR article as their won. Where is your recognition for the 'intellectual resource' and what exactly are you paying for. You don't see SABC changing people TV adverts to promote the SABC?

I am seeing more and more that people seem to be looking to make a 'quick buck' off the internet rather than offering marketing and business tools that actually work.

If we are going to benefit from the power of the internet we need to be ready to play by its rules (guidelines) rather than our own.

I'm all for self-submission, but there's a difference between promotion for the sake of quality, vs promotion for the sake of gain. It's the latter that we have an issue with, be it non- or self-submitters.

For instance, if I as a blogger come across something interesting, I'd probably want to share it via my blog first. Why should I be barred (even if only as an understanding) from submitting to a social bookmarking engine?

The other issue isn't so much the content - like Justmoney points out, they're doing their job, and their advice is useful. The issue is that there isn't enough variety or community to Muti anymore.

The only times I can remember Muti actually being a community centers around discussions about Muti itself, namely submission and moderation policy. That, and indabas like the blogger bread drive a long while back, where iMod used Muti votes to fundraise, and there was an argument in the comments.

In fact, that's really it - the only time people actually engage on Muti is to argue about shit. As far as building a community goes, that hasn't happened in the 2 or so years I've been watching.

So what we've basically got is a functioning platform with so many different ideas about its use, that it doesn't get used in any of the healthy ways. With the exception of those that ignore all the "rules". Welcome to mediocre, slow-changing content.

Graeme - I don’t think there is anything wrong with self submitting, I do however think there is something wrong with self submitting when you are not playing an active role in the community. By only multiple voting on your own posts is not playing a active role its simply for your own self gain. Also the way these few sites are gaining multiple votes in minutes is very suspicious!

I would not be bitching if the site wasn't heading downhill, when the home page of Muti is filled with 5 stories of car insurance it stops being useful.

Glider - Its spam when the home page is rigged, we know people are cheating on Muti by voting for their own post a number of times. The strict definition of spam is adapting to beyond unsolicited emails. Also you will not this time that this article was not brought up by the “geek parade” but by me.

As usual, the geek brigade steps in the minute people outside their "circle of trust" start to promote themselves on "your" websites. You cant have it both ways - growth will mean that you don't know or don't like some of the people who post on the site you helped 'create', but I reckon you should be over the moon that they are using it - go with it. Get a "down vote" if need be, but don't start "naming and shaming" people who produce loads of content - without them I don't really think you'll see the site getting any bigger. p.s - its not technically spam is it - you opted to click the link to get to their story, its not like it was sent to your inbox.
